Coach Training At Topline
Why Our Coaches Keep Training
At TopLine, coaching is never “finished”.
We believe that good coaches continue to learn, question, refine and develop — not just for their own growth, but for the welfare of the horses and the confidence of the riders they teach.
Ongoing training ensures that:
-
Horses are worked correctly, sympathetically and fairly
-
Riders receive accurate, up-to-date coaching
-
Standards remain consistent across the whole team
-
Confidence is built through understanding, not pressure
This commitment to continued professional development is central to how TopLine operates.
Classical Foundations, Modern Understanding
Our coaching is grounded in classical equitation principles, supported by modern knowledge of biomechanics, learning theory and horse welfare.
The TopLine coaching team trains regularly with Tim Brindle, whose classical approach informs our ridden work, rider position, and understanding of how horses move and learn. This ensures our coaching remains correct, thoughtful and horse-centred at every level.
Professional Standards & BHS Framework
Alongside this, our team’s professional development is supported within the British Horse Society framework through training and guidance from Sheila Hinchliffe.
This provides:
-
Clear progression for staff qualifications
-
Consistent standards of care and coaching
-
Strong safeguarding and welfare awareness
-
Accountability and best practice across the yard
What This Means for Riders and Horses
Because our coaches keep training:
-
Riders benefit from calm, accurate instruction
-
Horses are not overfaced or pushed beyond their understanding
-
Progress is steady, confident and sustainable
-
Coaching remains consistent, whatever the pathway chosen
Whether a rider is in a Tier group, Pony Club session or private lesson, they are taught within a system that values knowledge, reflection and responsibility.
The TopLine Standard
We don’t believe in standing still.
We believe in:
-
Learning from experienced mentors
-
Questioning our own practice
-
Protecting horse welfare above all else
-
Giving riders the best possible foundations
That is why training doesn’t stop at TopLine — and never will.
