Retirement from racing doesn’t mean the story ends — it’s just the beginning.

At TopLine Equine, based at beautiful Mere Farm in Cheshire, we believe every Thoroughbred deserves a future as bright and purposeful as their past. These horses are extraordinary athletes with heart, courage, and so much more to give — and with the right support, they can go on to excel in a wide range of new careers.

That’s where we come in.

We take in racehorses at the end of their racing careers and give them the time, space, and individual attention they need to adjust to life beyond the track. It’s a big change — both physically and mentally — and we approach each horse with patience, understanding, and kindness.

Our retraining begins with groundwork to build trust and introduce new aids, followed by careful ridden work on the flat, over poles and fences, and out hacking. Many of our horses attend clinics and local competitions as part of their preparation — so when they’re ready to meet their new person, they’re confident, well-handled, and versatile.

We also support the physical transition, allowing each horse’s digestive system to adapt gradually to a low-starch, high-fibre diet more suited to life after racing. Throughout, we work closely with our trusted vets, farrier, physios, and local trainers to ensure each horse has the very best foundation.

Our goal? To give every Thoroughbred a soft landing and a strong start — whether they go on to compete in dressage, jumping, or eventing, become a leisure all-rounder, or simply enjoy life as a cherished happy hacker.
