Loan A Pony Scheme

Our Loan Scheme allows our clients to have a taste of owning a pony while still being able to access the support of staff on the yard and at a fraction of the cost of full ownership. We aim to encourage loaners to think about their horses' behaviour and how it changes in response to things such as a change of routine or feed. This gives loaners a great insight into keeping horses happy and healthy and considering their needs makes our job of keeping them willing to work easy! This scheme benefits our ponies as they have a one-to-one loaner three days each week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday) when there are no hacks or lessons. This gives them much-needed pampering and rest time. All lesson horses have Mondays off too! We encourage our loaners to vary the ponies' work. Hacking, schooling, groundwork. Loaners are also able to enter local competitions, fun rides and shows.

Loan guidelines

Go bring in your horse! Make sure you close any gates and turn on electric fencing after you.

Never leave a pony out alone in the fields they can get very upset.

Remember to walk with purpose when leading don’t let them eat the grass!

Put your horse in a stable or tie them up on the yard (use bale string) – make sure they have a hay net securely tied and access to a drink.

Horses must be groomed thoroughly before being tacked up including feet picking.

Tack up gently and kindly don’t throw it on or they might get grumpy!

Always use a mounting block to mount – make sure you check your girth! Land softly 😊

Warm up and cool down in walk for a good 5-10 minutes longer when its colder or if they’ve been stabled.

Poo pick the menage once you are finished.

Always untack immediately after you dismount and see to your horse first – offer them a drink, get them tucked up with their hay give them a good brush down or a sponge if they are sweaty.

Give the tack a good wipe over and the bit a good clean. It should be cleaner than you found it 😉

If the numnah is dirty put it in the wash pile.

Turn your horse out (with any rugs or boots required)

Skip out stable make sure it is left clean and tidy – refill water and haynets, sweep up outside

Empty any wheelbarrow/scoop used - throw much as high up muck heap as you can.

Return all tools and brushes to their rightful home.

Please report any damage to tack or equipment or ponies! You will never be in trouble but the sooner we know of any injuries/signs of illness or broken things we can sort them 😊

Only riders named on the loan agreement can ride the ponies. Other visitors are welcome to watch you ride just let us know first.

If you aren’t sure just ask! There’s no such thing as a silly question.

We love our ponies and are always grateful for what they give us. They can have off days or might find what we ask confusing. Its our job to figure out how to make it work not theirs so always thank your pony even if things don’t go to plan!
